About The Producer
The story of Celler Vall Llach started in the 1990s when Eric Costa and Lluis Llach founded the Vall Llach winery in Porrera. Porrera is one of the 9 villages that make up the D.O.Q. Priorat. Lluis Llach is Catalunya's most famous chansonnier; Enric Costa was a notary public and the two gentlemen bought the vineyards together. Both wanted to go back to their roots and decided to restore old vineyards scattered around Porrera and Torroja. These old vineyards (vieilles vignes), often small patches of vineyard on steep slopes, are called "trossos. It took a lot of sweat and tears to restore and revitalize these 'trossos'. The first grapes were harvested in 1998 and the first bottle was bottled in 2000. The company is firmly rooted in the local society. They still produce the wines at their facility in the village square so that 'the locals' of Porrera do not have to travel. Furthermore, Celler Vall Llach ensures that a portion of the proceeds go to the local community.
