Signorello Estate has one of the more compelling stories in modern Napa Valley: a 40-year family operation along the Silverado Trail, completely destroyed by the 2017 Atlas Fire in a single night, and methodically rebuilt over nearly seven years into something arguably better than what existed before. The vineyard survived the fire untouched. The wines never stopped. And Ray Signorello Jr.’s decision to bring in winemaker Priyanka French and consultants Celia Welch and Steve Matthiasson during the rebuild meant the quality trajectory only went up.

S by Ray Signorello is the estate’s Napa Valley Cabernet, sourced from exceptional non-estate fruit (Howell Mountain, Rutherford, and St. Helena) and vinified with the same care and intention as the flagship wines. The 2023 is drawing outstanding notices: 96 points from Decanter, 94 from James Suckling, 93 from Vinous, and 92 from Wine Advocate. Suckling called it “energized, delicious and well balanced,” with “excellent depth of black fruit, but also brighter, lighter red fruit and good acidity that lend linearity and energy.” That freshness is a signature of the cooler 2023 Napa vintage, which gave producers generous material with higher natural acidity and greater structure than warmer years tend to deliver.

At 91% Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and Petit Verdot rounding out the blend, this is a wine that earns its scores without the overwrought weight that sometimes plagues the category. Plush but focused, serious but drinkable, and priced well below what the pedigree and critical reception would typically demand. Free shipping on 2 or more.

About The Producer

Signorello Estate is a renowned winery located in the Napa Valley region of California. Established by Ray Signorello Jr. in 1985, the winery quickly gained acclaim for its commitment to producing high-quality, Bordeaux-style wines. The estate's vineyards are situated on the Silverado Trail, a prime location in Napa known for its exceptional grape-growing conditions. Unfortunately, in October 2017, the winery fell victim to the devastating wildfires that swept through Northern California. The fires destroyed the winery's facilities and much of its wine inventory. Despite this setback, the Signorello family has shown resilience and determination to rebuild and continue their winemaking legacy. The history of Signorello Winery reflects both the challenges faced by Napa Valley and the strength of its winemaking community.
