Le Lucére's prized Riserva bottling is one of those expressive, single-vineyard Brunellos that never misses, and is made only in the best vintages. The 2019 vintage is one of the greatest Tuscan vintages in recent memory, and our tiny allotment of this exceptionally rare bottling is a USA exclusive that no Italian collector should miss! We have 120 bottles of this illustrious and powerful 97 point beauty – a thrilling find for any Italian wine lover’s cellar!

San Filippo remains one of the best estates in all of Tuscany, and has consistently made appearances on top wine lists, as well as won over the hearts of wine critics and fans the world over. Le Lucére is their very best plot, at the heart of Montalcino and close to the iconic Biondi-Santi’s Tenuta Greppo vineyard, La Serena, and more. The vineyard sits around 260 to 280 meters elevation, surrounded by forests on three sides, with eastern exposure, a steeply sloping hill, healthy wind flow, and unforgiving silty, clayey soils. Meticulous vineyard management and organic farming make way for a stern focus on expressing the terroir with selective harvesting, minimal intervention, and varied styles of barrels used for aging.

All of these qualities combined create the perfect equation of sourcing, site, and stewardship. San Filippo sits on 22 hectares of prime Tuscan real estate, and produced their first Brunello in 1977. Now, under the new ownership of Roberto Gianelli, they claim their place as one of Montalcino’s finest. When Roberto bought the property a few years back, he immediately invested in a full-scale renovation of the winemaking facilities and a rejuvenation of the vineyard property. The results have been dramatically impressive, and a new era of San Filippo drinkers is awakening to the limitless potential of this flourishing estate.

The endlessly potent, 97 point 2019 vintage is chock-full of lavender and eucalyptus, with notes of dark cherry, muddled raspberries, Earl Grey tea, and a medley of Indian spices from what is considered a 5-star, better-than-perfect vintage for the region. With a lengthy finish and harmonious tannins, this concentrated and precise wine is built for the long haul in the cellar, and just starting to enter its prime drinking window now. With over $100 in savings and free shipping on just 2 bottles, this is a collectible all-star worthy of a spot or two in your cellar!

PAIRING IDEAS: Give your burgers a flavorful twist by grilling some jalapenos and onions to throw on top with creamy burger sauce, butter lettuce, and crunchy bacon for something just as decadent as this Brunello.

About The Producer

Situated in the splendid area of Eastern Montalcino close to Biondi Santi’s Il Greppo and La Serena, the wines of San Filippo are age-worthy and elegant, though very approachable in their youth. The estate totals 22 hectares, 11 of which are under vine, dedicated mostly to Sangiovese, with a small olive grove as well. Founded in 1972 (1977 was the first year of production), the estate was recently purchased by Roberto Giannelli who restored and renovated the entire facility. With the help of consulting winemaker Paolo Caciorgna, Roberto is producing 2500 cases of top-flight Brunello aged in Slavonian and Allier oak casks each year, as well as 800 cases of a delicious Rosso di Montalcino aged 6 months in used barriques and large casks.
