The 2024 Pacific Rock is the inaugural release from this site, and RAEN considers it a true California Grand Cru. Sourced from the McDougall Vineyard in Fort Ross-Seaview, the vines sit at 940 to 1,000 feet on Laughlin series soils with a south to southwest exposure that catches the full glow of the evening sun. Made with 100% whole cluster native fermentation and bottled without fining or filtration, the wine opens with boysenberry, rose petal, and just-ripe black cherries, giving way to savory herbs, Black Doris plum, umami-rich mushroom, and wet volcanic rock, with a thread of coastal salinity lifting the finish. Antonio Galloni called it "bold and explosive" with tremendous textural depth and intensity, awarding 95 points and projecting a drinking window of 2027 to 2036. This is a serious debut from one of the Sonoma Coast's most exciting estates, and it will only get better as the vineyard moves deeper into its organic transition.

About The Producer

In a remote, raw territory where forests and meadows meet the Pacific Ocean, the story of RAEN began in 2013. Fourth-generation vintners and brothers, Carlo and Dante Mondavi (sons of Tim Mondavi and grandchildren of Robert Mondavi), admired these hills of the true Sonoma Coast for decades, recognizing their potential to yield whole-cluster pinot noirs of incredible expression, elegance, and length. RAEN (pronounced "rain") is their ethos, representing a dedication to Research in Agriculture and Enology Naturally and reminding us that rain becomes wine in the vineyard every year.
