Podere Le Ripi Amore & Magia Brunello di Montalcino 2016

Francesco Illy of the renowned Illy coffee family purchased 54 hectares of wild, untouched land above Castelnuovo dell'Abate in 1997, drawn by a landscape so rugged and unspoiled he couldn't resist it. What began as a search for a Tuscan house became a complete commitment to biodynamic viticulture on Montalcino's eastern slopes, where Sangiovese vines share the land with forest, olive trees, and orchards. Amore & Magia is the estate's flagship Brunello, aged in large oak barrels for 24 to 41 months depending on the vintage and then completed in concrete vats for up to 24 months, with no shortcuts and no concessions to the market. The 2016 is a wine of extraordinary concentration and silky precision, with intense notes of ripe plums, wild raspberries, leather, and dried porcini on the nose, and a palate of wonderful polished tannins that builds for a long time, juicy fruit, and a firm, persistent mineral drive on the finish. Wine Advocate awarded 95, Vinous 95, Wine Enthusiast 95, Jeb Dunnuck 94, and Wine Spectator 94. Incredibly priced for a wine of this biodynamic pedigree and critical standing. These are rare. Don't miss them.
