Six bottles remaining! And the best price we could find anywhere online… Pierre Girardin set out on his own in 2017, stepping out from under the shadow of his father Vincent – a well-known name in Meursault – to build a domaine with his own hands and instincts. For Les Charmes, he works old vines, over 40 years in the ground, farmed organically on the gently sloping limestone plain of Meursault, soil rich with iron that gives the wines here a distinct character. There are no Grand Crus in Meursault – the appellation simply doesn't make them – so Premier Cru sites like Les Charmes carry the weight of being the best the village has to offer.

Pierre lets the fruit ferment with wild, native yeast and ages the wine slowly in small 456-liter barrels, two-thirds of them new oak, coaxing out texture without letting the wood take over. The 2020 pours a pale gold and opens with a slightly reductive edge – white flowers, citrus, flint, crushed stone – before settling into the classic Meursault register of honey, lime, hazelnut butter, and a hint of chamomile. On the palate it's silky and round, carried by precision and bright acidity, finishing at length on notes of ripe plum and spiced bread. A single small parcel, a young domaine making wine in limited quantities, and a name carrying pedigree in a region where the best bottles are snapped up lightning fast. We have one of the lowest prices on this anywhere… and only half a case remaining.

About The Producer

Winemaking is not a new activity for the Girardin family. Pierre-Vincent Girardin represents the thirteenth generation of his family to make wine in Burgundy, and he grew up chasing butterflies through the vines at Puligny-Montrachet while his father Vincent plowed Les Folatières. When Vincent Girardin sold his well-known domaine in 2012, he retained 4.5 hectares of his finest parcels with the intention of eventually passing them to his son. Father and son spent several years working the vines together, refining a shared philosophy before the formal transition. Pierre-Vincent released his first vintage in 2017 at the age of twenty-one, and the debut wines generated an immediate wave of critical attention. His approach is organic in the vineyards and defined in the cellar by a preference for larger custom 456-liter barrels that minimize oak influence and let the terroir lead. The wines are unfined and unfiltered, with a purity and tension that drew rapid comparisons to Coche-Dury and Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey. What began as 4.5 hectares in Meursault has since grown to over thirteen hectares reaching into Puligny-Montrachet, Pommard, Chassagne-Montrachet, and Grand Crus including Corton-Charlemagne and Montrachet, with distribution now reaching eighty-five countries worldwide.
