Pavie Decesse Saint Emilion Grand Cru 2015
30% OFF RETAIL!
Château Pavie-Decesse – one of the smallest production top-end châteaus in all of Bordeaux – was for the longest time a part of the iconic Château Pavie – with a shared history of growing grapes that dates back to the 4th century! 99 POINTS and the amazing 2015 vintage is what’s on the table here – at the best price in the USA! We have just a few cases left of this remarkable wine – an incredible, 9 years-young-Bordeaux ready for your collection!
Château Pavie-Decesse, whose 3.5 hectares were separated from Château Pavie in 1885, has been rejoined by the current owner, Gérard Perse. Sitting high atop the revered Saint-Emilion limestone plateau – Château Pavie-Decesse actually casts its shadow on its more famous sibling, just southeast of the village of Saint-Emilion. Here, 40+-year-old vines of some 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc produce a tiny amount of their high-scoring and highly collectible grand vin – totaling only about 650 cases annually.
2015 is a rockstar vintage that has it all. Our price is blue-chip investment-grade, even if you never had any interest in ever drinking the wine. But, of course, you do...right? ‘Cause I sure do! Despite the obvious and historic pedigree of Château Pavie, Pavie-Decesse is actually a little more interesting to our palates – the enhanced minerality, not to mention the complexity and freshness...it’s just right up our alley! We may have just a couple of cases left, but we also just scored exactly 12 magnums of this same fantastic bottling! 99 point Bordeaux MAGNUMS – now, that is a statement sure to stand the test of time! And the price?! Too good to list here...so click onwards and score!
But back to the wine! Purchased by Gerard Perse in 1997, one year before he bought Chateau Pavie. The estate is located approximately 85 meters above the Dordogne River. The soil is largely clay-limestone with that previously mentioned asteriated limestone subsoil. Pavie-Decesse is hand-harvested, with a blend matching the vineyard planting – 90% merlot and 10% cabernet franc. The juice is fermented and aged in new oak barrels for 18 to 24 months with racking every 3 months in place of fining or filtering. Final blending takes place just before bottling, and now, after over 6 years in bottle, this beauty is ready to sing!!! Lifted and perfumed aromas of myriad flowers – lilac, rose, peonies, followed by bright cherry and red currant notes, crisp plums, and macerated berries, with interjections of earthy and mineral elements like white truffles, graphite, and wild herbs. It’s striking in its youth straight away, but with the structure and balance to evolve gorgeously over the next decade plus. Read the critics' thoughts on this sure-to-be-epic Saint-Emilion stunner below...but please, please hurry! Only 3 cases to be had...from a top vintage...with incredible critical praise...all for only $124.95! That’s a Bordeaux lover’s dream!
