Chassagne-Montrachet is best known for its whites, but its village-level reds deserve far more attention than they typically receive, especially in a vintage like 2022 when the warm, dry summer gave the Pinot Noir exceptional ripeness and color. Potel’s Roche de Bellene Villages bottling draws from old-vine parcels on the limestone and marl soils of the village, where the same rocky substructure that gives the Grand Cru whites their mineral precision lends the reds a lovely chalky backbone and aromatic lift. The result is a Pinot Noir of medium weight and elegant proportion: fresh red cherry, cranberry, dried herbs, and a savory, earthy edge, all held together by bright acidity and silky tannins that make it genuinely versatile at the table. A smart, well-priced village Burgundy from a great vintage and a beloved address.

About The Producer

Maison Roche de Bellene was founded in 2005 by Nicolas Potel, a renowned Burgundian winemaker with deep family roots in the region. After establishing his reputation through Domaine de Rochegrès and his own négociant business, Potel launched Roche de Bellene as a high-quality, terroir-driven négociant house. Focused on sourcing fruit from old-vine, sustainably farmed vineyards across Burgundy, the maison offers a diverse range of wines, from regional Bourgogne to prestigious Grand Cru bottlings. The philosophy is centered on minimal intervention winemaking, allowing each terroir’s expression to shine through with purity and elegance. Today, Maison Roche de Bellene continues to be a respected name in Burgundy, known for its meticulous sourcing, consistent quality, and commitment to sustainable viticulture, offering both accessible and collectible wines that reflect the essence of the region.
