Les Vergelesses is the most admired Premier Cru in Savigny-lès-Beaune, a north-facing hillside parcel with exceptional limestone and chalk soils that produce wines of remarkable finesse and aromatic purity for the appellation. Savigny sits in the valley between Pernand-Vergelesses and Beaune, and Les Vergelesses occupies the coolest, most elevated position of all, which in the warm 2022 vintage proved to be a considerable asset, preserving freshness and lift in a year when some lower-lying parcels leaned toward overripeness. Potel’s négociant sourcing from organically farmed old vines brings the full character of the site to the surface: vivid red cherry, raspberry, dried rose, and a flintier, chalk-driven minerality that runs through the palate and lingers on the finish. Classic, pure, and beautifully priced for the quality inside. These are limited. Grab them while you can.
