From the tucked-away Saint-Aubin appellation — nestled between Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet on the Côte de Beaune — Les Frionnes is a small 3-hectare premier cru site with a southeast exposure, planted in clay and limestone soils with vines averaging 29 years old. Nicolas Potel, who launched Maison Roche de Bellene as a self-described "Haute Couture" négociant focused on limited cuvées, brings a minimally interventionist, sustainably farmed approach aimed at showcasing individual terroir. On the palate, the wine delivers zesty citrus acidity alongside orchard fruit, leesy texture, and a bright, engaging character — a serious but accessible premier cru Chardonnay that punches well above its price point relative to its more famous neighbors.

About The Producer

Maison Roche de Bellene was founded in 2005 by Nicolas Potel, a renowned Burgundian winemaker with deep family roots in the region. After establishing his reputation through Domaine de Rochegrès and his own négociant business, Potel launched Roche de Bellene as a high-quality, terroir-driven négociant house. Focused on sourcing fruit from old-vine, sustainably farmed vineyards across Burgundy, the maison offers a diverse range of wines, from regional Bourgogne to prestigious Grand Cru bottlings. The philosophy is centered on minimal intervention winemaking, allowing each terroir’s expression to shine through with purity and elegance. Today, Maison Roche de Bellene continues to be a respected name in Burgundy, known for its meticulous sourcing, consistent quality, and commitment to sustainable viticulture, offering both accessible and collectible wines that reflect the essence of the region.
