Gevrey-Chambertin makes Burgundy’s most powerful and darkly concentrated Pinot Noir, and the 2020 vintage, born from a hot, dry summer that produced exceptional depth and structure, plays directly to that character. Potel’s Premier Cru selection draws from the village’s most serious mid-slope sites, where the Bathonian limestone and brown clay soils of Gevrey produce wines of remarkable grip and longevity. The 2020 shows it all: dense and dark in the glass, with crushed blackberry, black cherry, woodsmoke, licorice, and a curl of iron on the nose, the palate muscular and concentrated with firm tannins that beg for time. This is not a wine to rush. Decant generously if you’re opening it now, or better yet, celllar it through 2028 and let it fully unfurl. A serious Premier Cru from a serious vintage. Don’t miss it.

About The Producer

Focused on sourcing fruit from old-vine, sustainably farmed vineyards across Burgundy, the maison offers a diverse range of wines, from regional Bourgogne to prestigious Grand Cru bottlings. The philosophy is centered on minimal intervention winemaking, allowing each terroir’s expression to shine through with purity and elegance. Today, Maison Roche de Bellene continues to be a respected name in Burgundy, known for its meticulous sourcing, consistent quality, and commitment to sustainable viticulture, offering both accessible and collectible wines that reflect the essence of the region.
