Nicolas Potel had a gift for finding the extraordinary in unexpected places, and his Côte de Nuits-Villages Vieilles Vignes is one of the most compelling arguments for the appellation's underappreciated potential. The fruit comes from organically farmed vines averaging 74 years of age in Comblanchien, just south of Nuits-Saint-Georges, on classic Côte de Nuits limestone that gives the wine a mineral backbone well above its appellation standing.

The 2018 vintage in Burgundy was warm and generous, producing wines of exceptional ripeness and concentration, and this Vieilles Vignes shows all of it: deep blue Pinot fruit, plum, game, and a beguiling texture that coats the palate with dense extract while keeping the tannins surprisingly supple.
