Charmes is the largest and most generous of Meursault’s four Premiers Crus, a broad, gently sloping parcel of limestone and clay that produces whites of richness and textural depth without sacrificing the mineral backbone that defines great white Burgundy. The 2022 vintage, born from a warm, sunny season with excellent diurnal swings, gave Chardonnay of exceptional concentration and natural freshness, and Potel’s Roche de Bellene sourcing from old-vine, organically farmed parcels brings all of that quality into focus. The wine shows the classic Charmes profile: creamy and full on entry, with yellow peach, toasted hazelnut, and honey flowing over a stony, saline core, the finish mineral and long. Maison Roche de Bellene was founded in 2005 by Nicolas Potel, a renowned Burgundian winemaker with deep family roots in the region. After establishing his reputation through Domaine de Rochegrès and his own négociant business, Potel launched Roche de Bellene as a high-quality, terroir-driven négociant house. Focused on sourcing fruit from old-vine, sustainably farmed vineyards across Burgundy, the maison offers a diverse range of wines, from regional Bourgogne to prestigious Grand Cru bottlings.
