There’s a reason Burgundy has some of the most legendary pedigree and praise the world over...it has been the foundation and measuring stick for exceptionally grown, produced, and appreciated Pinot Noir for ages! And today, we’ve got an utterly stunning bottle from one of the greatest of great Burgundy producers, Louis Latour!

Since 1797, Maison Louis Latour has been growing grapes in Burgundy, slowly growing their holdings to over 50 hectares. In 1985, the grower began producing its own wines, quickly becoming renowned for their meticulous production practices, reverence for tradition, and commitment to quality. These are some of the most rare, highly esteemed, brilliantly crafted Burgundian wines you can find, and we’re floored to have a teeny, tiny allotment for OVER 60% off the retail price. These opportunities don’t come around often, and real Burghounds know this is a chance to snag something truly superior and collectible!

Grown in the north side of the Premier Cru village of Beaune, on a 1.32-hectare plot named Perrières (“quarryman” or “stone breaker”), the grapevines must work hard to establish strong, deep roots in the poor and shallow soils of clay and limestone set upon sharply steep slopes. The average vine age here is 25 years, and the grapes get hand-harvested before open-air fermentation and 10 to 12 months of aging in 35% new, medium-toasted French oak barrels (made in-house by the Louis Latour cooperage). Everything here is intentional, and everything is done with a nod to history, tradition, and authenticity.

As such, the wine is as classic Red Burgundy as you can get. 2018 was a hot, dry growing year that yielded extremely opulent, concentrated reds – and some even compare it to the iconic 1947 Burgundy vintage. Aromas of bursting blackberries, black cherries, and licorice waft from the glass in tandem with elements of fresh earthiness. The mouth brings in more deep, dark berry sensations alongside notes of wild mushrooms, shaved fennel, damp forest floor, and a hint of black pepper, anise, and cumin. Velvety tannins wrap up the smooth and sultry finish into a delectable and generous bow. This is a true gem of a Red Burgundy from an epic year and a storied producer...to get it for WELL over 60% off is unheard of, and we happen to have the best price in the U.S.! This is absolutely, groundbreakingly immaculate, and certainly deserves a space on your cellar shelf!

PAIRING IDEAS: Pan-fried chicken thighs with a mushroom and white-wine reduction is going to bring the perfect hearty flavor to complement this earthy Red Burgundy.

About The Producer

Domaine Louis Latour, established in 1797, is a family-owned winery in Burgundy, France, with roots in viticulture dating back to the 17th century. The estate encompasses 50 hectares of exceptional vineyards, including 27 hectares of Grand Cru—the largest such holding in Burgundy—spanning renowned appellations like Chambertin and Romanée-Saint-Vivant in the Côte de Nuits, and Corton-Charlemagne and Chevalier-Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune. The Latour family has been cultivating vines in the village of Aloxe-Corton since the 1760s, eventually establishing Maison Louis Latour in 1797. In 1832, they constructed the Corton Grancey Cuverie, France's first purpose-built winery, ingeniously designed over five levels to utilize gravity in the winemaking process. Today, under the stewardship of the 11th generation, Domaine Louis Latour continues to honor its rich heritage while embracing sustainable viticulture practices. The estate produces wines that reflect the unique terroirs of Burgundy, maintaining a commitment to quality and tradition that has defined the family business for over two centuries.
