Le Vigne was Sandrone's multi-vineyard Barolo, blending fruit from four carefully selected sites across different Barolo villages as a nod to the traditional approach that preceded the rise of single-cru bottlings. With the 2011 vintage, Luca Sandrone added parcels in Baudana (Serralunga) and Villero (Castiglione Falletto), deepening the wine's complexity, but the 2010 represents the expression Luciano Sandrone honed over decades of obsessive attention. Vinous awarded the 2010 Le Vigne a perfect 100 points, making it one of the most decorated wines ever produced at this legendary address. Wine Enthusiast gave it 97, James Suckling 96, Wine Advocate 96, and Wine Spectator 94. A wine of intense fragrance of violet, rose, wild berry, leather, underbrush, and balsamic notes, with a focused palate of crushed black cherry, exotic spices, licorice, sage, and black pepper in perfect balance. Now well into its secondary evolution, this is a wine of supreme complexity and class from one of Piedmont's most beloved estates. The price here is exceptional. These won't last.

About The Producer

Few origin stories in Italian wine are as good as this one. Luciano Sandrone began his career as a cellarman at the historic Marchesi di Barolo estate, saving every lira until he could afford to purchase his first parcel on the celebrated Cannubi Boschis hill in 1977. He emptied his savings to do it, which meant his first wines were made at home in his parents' garage on weekends while he kept his day job. In 1982, a trip to Vinitaly changed everything: he sold his entire 1978 Barolo production to an American distributor, and what followed was a slow, disciplined accumulation of some of Barolo's most coveted vineyard land across five communes. The estate grew to over 20 hectares while remaining entirely family-operated, with never more than twelve full-time workers in the vineyard. Luciano's approach bridged Barolo's traditional and modern camps with unusual elegance, using rotary fermenters and shorter macerations to coax wines of Burgundian lift and silky texture, while honoring the primacy of site above all else. The flagship Barolo Aleste, renamed from Cannubi Boschis in 2013 to honor his grandchildren Alessia and Stefano, remains one of the most coveted single-vineyard Barolos produced anywhere in the denomination. Luciano passed away in 2023, leaving behind a legacy that shaped a generation of Langa winemakers. The estate continues under the stewardship of his brother Luca and daughter Barbara, who carry his exacting standards forward with the same quiet conviction that built the name.
