José Gil is one of Rioja’s rising stars, and El Bardallo shows his artisanal, vineyard-driven approach. The 2022 bottling is lifted and expressive, with bright Tempranillo character and vibrant acidity. Fresh yet substantial, it’s a contemporary Rioja that prizes clarity and finesse.

About The Producer

José Gil is a small, dynamic winery located in San Vicente de la Sonsierra, one of Rioja’s most prestigious subzones. Founded by José Gil, a third-generation viticulturist, the winery embodies a deep respect for tradition combined with a forward-thinking approach to winemaking. Drawing on his family's long history of cultivating vineyards, Gil crafts wines that showcase the unique terroir of the Sonsierra, where the Ebro River and Sierra Cantabria mountains create a perfect microclimate for viticulture. The winery focuses on sustainable practices, working with old-vine Tempranillo and Garnacha, often from organically farmed, low-yielding plots. Today, José Gil is celebrated for producing elegant, terroir-driven wines that strike a balance between modern precision and classic Rioja character.
