Grüner Veltliner is Austria’s signature white grape, and Simone Hiller-Jordan makes beautiful versions. Together with her husband, Hannes, Simone has led the traditional family winery Jordan (started in 1858 in Groß-Reipersdorf, near Pulkau) since 2010. (For trademark reasons, the wines are sold here in the USA as “Hiller.”) Before turning to winemaking, Simone was crowned regional wine queen of Lower Austria and then wine queen of all of Austria. She went on to complete her oenology studies and has been making regionally expressive wines in the Weinviertel ever since.

“Steinzeit” means “Stone Age,” a nod to the primary rock soils where these Veltliner grapes grow and to the granite in which the wine is aged. That mineral spine shows up in the glass after the golden-yellow pour with notes of ripe yellow pear, white peach, and a touch of almond, leading to a savory, stony streak underneath. It’s silky, layered, and long on the finish, with the poise to age for years. This is a special-occasion white that pairs beautifully with roast chicken, grilled fish, or a plate of aged cheeses. Quantities are limited, so grab yours before they're gone!

About The Producer

Hiller is the bomb. A family wine estate in Great Reipersdorf near Pulkau in Austria, these reds and whites are some of the sexiest wines for the money on planet earth. A First Bottle favorite, fill out your next 6 pack with a few of these and you won't be disappointed. Since 1858, there has been a noteworthy tradition of winemaking. Nowadays, there are two generations at work. Simone Jordan is responsible for winemaking, along with her parents Karl and Anni Jordan, and a passion, love and avid fascination are top priority. It is no longer uncommon for a woman to run her own wine estate in what is regarded as a male dominated branch. From 2010, Simone Jordan led her family wine estate into the next generation, taking over from her parents.
