Save almost $100 with free shipping on 2+ bottles! We have not nearly enough of this immaculate Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon, from the masterful team behind Gallica, led by one of our all-time favorite Napa winemakers, Rosemary Cakebread. She earned a degree in viticulture and enology from UC Davis in 1979 and went on to hold stints at some impressive landing pads – including a harvest in Bordeaux and time working for Inglenook, Mumm, and Spottswoode before launching her own brand, Gallica, with a keen focus on her prized variety, Cabernet Sauvignon. Her singular goal was to create graceful, organically farmed, single-vineyard wines that showcase the story of the land on which they were grown.

This lovingly aged 2012 – boasting 97 and double-95 point reviews – is a pristine showing of that very vision. Grown on the Oakville Ranch Vineyard, in the eastern hills of Napa Valley and farmed by the famed Phil Coturri, the grapes grow on a plateau ranging from 800 to 1,400 feet in elevation and among red, volcanic soils with good drainage. The team said of this wine in particular, “This is an evocative vintage with grace and aging potential.” 2012 was one of those simply magic years for grape growers and winemakers in Napa, with easygoing weather that grew bountiful, healthy, incredibly balanced grapes.

Rounded out with 10% Cabernet Franc grown on the same site, this Cabernet Sauvignon is simply a magnificent wine to sip on, with slightly softened edges and rich layers of complexity due to its time aging in bottle. It’s rich and boisterous, yet silky, harmonious, and polished, with aromas of dried herbs, black cherries, and blackberries emerging from the glass. The palate continues with complex, inky-dark notes of plums, black currants, peppercorn, cedar bark, dried thyme, saddle leather, and mocha, with whisper-soft tannins and a pure, layered, elegant style. There’s not much Gallica could do that we wouldn’t absolutely fawn over – but we must say, this could be one of the best wines we’ve tried from them! Go ahead and grab two (at least) for free shipping... trust us, it’s worth it.

PAIRING IDEAS: Say what you want, but a classic meatloaf would be insane with this Cab. Go slightly elevated with this mini version that has the perfect glaze to up the ante on this wine’s deep richness.

About The Producer

Gallica is nestled in the heart of Napa Valley amongst historic vineyards, coastal oaks, our gardens and olives. Heritage Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon are rooted in gravelly Cortina soils ambling off nearby Sulphur Creek. Our home is a handsome barn, contemporary and fresh, standing side by side with weathered vines. We strive to practice lightly touching the land from the tending of our vines, thoughtful winemaking methods, to the simplicity of our packaging, Winemaker Rosemary Cakebread's vision for a wine of her own, eventually called GALLICA, grew slowly. Inspired by earlier work at prestigious properties in both Napa Valley and Bordeaux (Cheval Blanc), wines were made and a brand grew. The philosophy is a simple one: to craft elegant single vineyard wines farmed organically which accurately depict the site and the story of each unique vintage. GALLICA makes Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Albarino, Syrah and limited bottlings of estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. The brand symbol is a tribute to the ancient rose, their aromatics, and enhancement to winemaking. We love what we do and are fortunate to call Napa Valley home.
