Now over $200 off, the 2016 Gaja Barbaresco is a 97-point Nebbiolo from one of Piedmont’s most storied estates, available in a limited run of just 6 bottles! In 1859, Giovanni Gaja began buying superior vineyards in Piedmont’s Barbaresco zone, and the estate’s great-grandson Angelo Gaja took over winery operations in the late 1960s, building a house some critics call the source of “Italy’s finest wine.” The 2016 Barbaresco is a 100% Nebbiolo, with the fruit drawn from 14 vineyards throughout Barbaresco. Gaja itself calls 2016 “one of the greatest vintages we have ever experienced.” Notes of cherry, a hint of raspberry, rose petals, balsamic notes, a touch of tar, and forest floor lift from the glass with a firm body, fine tannins, and juicy fruit character. Critics describe a classic, somewhat austere style, with nuances that Antonio Galloni ranked among the finest Gaja Barbarescos in recent memory. Not many to share, so pick yours up quickly!
