Fontodi Flaccianello delle Pieve Colli della Toscana Centrale 2017

The 2017 Flaccianello is dark, sensual, and enveloping, capturing the essence of the Fontodi house style in what Antonio Galloni described as a fabulous vintage for this wine. Farr Vintners awarded 98, Vinous 97 (twice), Wine Advocate 96, Wine Enthusiast 96, Wine Spectator 95, James Suckling 95, Rupert Valentini 94, and Decanter 94. The wine shows the beautiful integration of a vintage where warmth and ripeness were held in check by the estate's altitude and the Conca d'Oro's natural temperature moderation: dark fruit, sandalwood, earthy depth, and the characteristic Flaccianello freshness and precision pulling the wine into remarkable length. Aged in the estate's recently enlarged barrel room with a reduction in barrique time in favor of larger vessels, the 2017 has evolved beautifully and is in an excellent drinking window right now while still having plenty of life ahead. The pricing here is exceptional for a wine drawing scores of this level from one of Tuscany's most beloved estates.
