Edge Hill is one of Napa’s most historic and storied wineries that’s grown into a cult powerhouse producer. We are stoked to have a pile of some of their powerful 2018 vintage “Mixed Blacks” Red Blend in our midst, ready to blow you away for just $40 a bottle when you order two or more, plus free shipping on three! (That’s $80 TOTAL for two – way less than our one-bottle price… you do the math!)

I’m not a numbers person, but that seems like one easy choice! The winery sells this magnificent 2018 red blend for $150 – and with the level of history, pedigree, and care it exudes, that price is pretty darn worth it. Alas, we did some magic slinging and scored several cases for as much as 74% off, delivered straight from the winery library, making this a deal not to be ignored.

Edge Hill was first founded in 1867 by General Erasmus Keyes following his historic efforts during the Civil War, less than a decade after Napa’s first-ever winery opened its doors. Abraham Lincoln himself signed and verified the original property deed, cementing this prized winery as a true piece of American and Californian history. The property was later owned by Louis Martini and eventually sold to Leslie Rudd (of Press Restaurant, Rudd Winery, Dean & DeLuca, and more). He turned the estate from a passion project into a cult producer, and now the folks behind Memento Mori just bought the winery, with rumors flying that it’s about to become an even more premium destination.

Historically, “mixed blacks” refers to field blends where various red grape varieties are planted and harvested together, creating a remarkable and unique level of complexity and balance in a red wine. This one utilizes a traditional field blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, and other heritage varieties planted on a single, historic estate in the western foothills of the Mayacamas Mountains. For admirers of the bold, hedonistic profile found in a wine like The Prisoner, this wine is a revelation, offering that same luscious power but with the soul, structure, and focus unique to a single-vineyard site of this caliber.

Richly spiced and brambly, it offers generous layers of ripe red and black berries, framed by polished oak notes of vanilla, clove, and a touch of black pepper. The palate is vibrant and expressive, with a juicy core balanced by fresh acidity. Flavors of fresh-picked plum and mixed berry pie carry through to a long, supple finish that lingers gracefully. Bold without being overbearing, it delivers impressive depth and character – especially at our price point. Get in there to score some while you can!

FOOD PAIRINGS: You really must give this a run with some BBQ – I’m opting for these ridiculously amazing Kansas City-style ribs. Oh, yeah.

About The Producer

Edge Hill is one of the most historic properties in the Napa Valley, with ties back to General Erasmus Keyes — who settled here following the Civil War with a property deed signed by Abraham Lincoln himself! Originally spanning 1500 acres across the western hillsides just south and west of Saint Helena, the winery was established in 1867, just nine years after Napa Valley’s first ever winery. Over the decades, it passed hands through some of the region’s greatest families — such as the Martinis, Rudds, and Gotts.
