Chiara Boschis comes from a family of nine generations of winemaking in the Barolo appellation. In 1980, her family (owners of Giacomo Borgogno & Figli) purchased E. Pira & Figli and, with it, acquired some of the most distinguished land in Barolo. Chiara took over as winemaker in 1990, helping to forge the path for women winemakers in the area while simultaneously improving the quality and image of her family’s estate in one fell swoop. Soon, she became known as the “Barolo Girl” and passionately continued working to grow grapes and craft wines with an approachable balance, powerful aromatics, and seamless elegance, using the best parts of both traditional and modern approaches to consistently produce high-quality bottlings.

Hailing from a 0.8 hectare plot in the Mosconi vineyard in Monforte d’Alba, the organically farmed grapevines average an age of 50 years old with south-facing exposure, about 370 meters above sea level. This vineyard is renowned for producing rich and structured Barolos, and the vintage is characterized by its considerable depth, complexity, and intensity. Aged in lightly toasted French oak – a third of which is new – for 24 months, plus an extra year in bottle, the resulting wine is simply spectacular.

“An absolutely gorgeous red, the 2020 vintage for Mosconi really shines and Chiara has knocked it out of the park.” – Audrey Frick for Jeb Dunnuck, 98 Points

It opens with bright and lifted aromas of dried roses, violets, hibiscus, and plump black cherries, while an amalgamation of spicy, herbal, and mineral notes comes in on the palate – some wet stones, peppercorn, dusty earth, licorice, eucalyptus, and tangled underbrush. A core of rich red and black fruits of cherry, raspberry, and plums underscores the seductive and intense power of the wine. Stunning stuff, to be certain, and for the best price online with loads of rave critics’ reviews, a worthy addition to any Italian wine lover’s cellar! Arrivederci!

PAIRING IDEAS: A simple pasta dish of tagliatelle with pancetta, basil, and mozzarella will be lovely alongside this Barolo and allows its rich characters to sing.
