The Mosconi cru in Monforte d’Alba sits just south of Ginestra and produces wines of a fundamentally different character to Cannubi: darker, more virile, and intensely structured. Chiara first produced a Mosconi with the 2009 vintage, and the 2016 is widely regarded as one of the finest yet. Rupert Valentini awarded it 99 points, Wine Advocate 96, James Suckling 96, Wine Spectator 95, Farr Vintners 95, and Decanter 94. Antonio Galloni at Vinous said that this is one of the most elegant wines he has ever tasted from Mosconi, a site that does not naturally lend itself to finesse. Black cherry, plum, mocha, sage, tar, lavender, and spice infuse the 2016 with tons of character, while the tannic structure is impressive and speaks to long aging potential. A wine of precision and concentration that the 2016 vintage, one of Barolo’s finest in decades, made possible. In very short supply.
