More fruit from Coombsville in 2018 has resulted in a much darker, more concentrated wine. During my tasting at Dunn in August 2024, we discussed how the 2018s are more backwards than the 2019 vintage. The wine is black-fruited and meaty, with herbal nuances and deep, savoury wood notes. The tannins are sweet-spiced, with less mineral character than the 2019 and 2021 vintages, but they offer an intriguing umami profile with notes of black and white truffle. These wines are highly perfumed and incredibly expressive. Truly outstanding. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced 55% from Howell Mountain and 45% from Coombsville, fermented in stainless steel tanks with 3-4 daily pump-overs and aged up to 32 months in 100% new French oak.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is a gorgeous wine, especially for Dunn fans who want a wine to drink that won't take forever to come around. Dark and savory, with terrific depth, the 2018 is full of character. Black cherry, lavender, chocolate, sage, mint and cloves all open in the glass. The 2018 has just enough grip to have a good amount of classic structure, but not to the point of being forbidding. The Napa Cabernet is about 55% Howell Mountain and 45% Coombsville fruit. The 2018 is beautifully done and an absolute delight.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is ripe and opulent, with a full-bodied profile as well as tons of plummy fruits, tobacco, chocolate, and graphite-like aromas and flavors. A big, rich, mouth-filling beauty with plenty of ripe tannins and outstanding length, it has ample charm today yet should benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and shine over the following decade or more.
