The 2020 Dominus is a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, rolling out of the glass with expressive notes of baked blackberries, preserved plums, and kirsch, with suggestions of Indian spices, sandalwood, potpourri, and black truffles, plus a ferrous hint. Winemaker Tod Mostero dry-farms the Napanook Vineyard with minimal intervention, vinifying each parcel separately to preserve the expression of this singular Yountville site. The 2020 delivers plenty of upfront richness and fruit, though it is more modest in scale than the towering vintages on either side of it, making it a relatively accessible and approachable entry into the Dominus canon. Available in half bottles, it is an excellent format for exploring what this iconic estate does even in a more restrained year.

About The Producer

In the late 1960s, while attending the University of California at Davis, Christian Moueix fell in love with the Napa Valley and its wines. In 1981, he discovered the historic Napanook Vineyard, a 124-acre site west of Yountville that had been the source of fruit for some of the finest Napa Valley wines of the 1940s and 1950s. In 1982, Moueix entered into a partnership to develop the vineyard, and in 1995, became its sole owner.
