Rosé from Sancerre – a region renowned for white wine – is precisely the kind of anomaly we adore. Made by the long-established Roger family in the storybook village of Bué, this crisp and energetic rosé is made from 100% Pinot Noir, the permitted red grape of Sancerre. Coming from an estate that champions environmental stewardship, it is grown on primarily clay-limestone and flint soils, infusing the charming pink wine with an exquisite level of precision and mineral drive.

What you get in the glass is a journey of delights for the senses – from ripe, fresh, wild strawberries and red currants, to tingly orange zest and white pepper, to undertones of white peaches and white flowers alongside a prominently chalky, saline backbone. It’s akin to Provençal rosé, but with even more tension, structure, and terroir character. Very few Sancerre producers bottle rosé, making this all the more exciting and rare. And for under $25, it completely over-delivers as a style that’s easily drinkable, yet the opposite of simple. A perfect wine to sip on a sunny spring afternoon, if there ever was one!

About The Producer

Domaine du Carrou – Dominique Roger in Sancerre is a classic Loire Valley family estate with roots going back centuries in the Bué commune, though the current domaine was formally established by Dominique’s father, Maurice Roger, in the mid-20th century. The Rogers have long farmed limestone, clay-limestone, and flint soils that give Sancerre its signature freshness and mineral clarity, and today Dominique continues this heritage on about 11 hectares certified at the highest level of Haute Valeur Environnementale. With meticulous vineyard care—including grassed rows, manual canopy work, and hand harvesting—the domaine produces a range of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, and rosé wines that express the purity of Sancerre’s terroirs and maintain strong domestic and international respect.
