Domaine Forey Père et Fils was founded in 1840 in Vosne-Romanée by Francis Forey, and today it's run by father and son Régis and Quentin Forey, carrying forward nearly two centuries of tradition. From their home in Vosne-Romanée, the family humbly commands some of the most prized vineyard sites in all of Burgundy, with holdings that rub shoulders with icons like Richebourg and La Tâche.
Astoundingly, from 1976 until the mid-2000s, Régis Forey was personally responsible for vinifying La Romanée – yes, that La Romanée – one of the most storied grand crus on earth, owned by the Liger-Belair family. Seeing the end of that arrangement coming, Régis spent years securing top parcels in Échézeaux, Vougeot, and Morey-Saint-Denis to ensure the estate could keep crafting exceptional wines for generations. One sip of any of these, and it's easy to agree – he most certainly has. Today we've got 2023 Nuits-Saint-Georges, though in painfully small quantities, and at knockout prices.
Made from a hectare of 60-year-old vines across a few of the village's lieux-dits and vinified with 60% whole clusters, this leans into that classic Nuits swagger – a certain wildness and rambunctiousness wrapped around fresh, pronounced fruit, fine-grained tannins, and lively acidity, with real aging potential. It’s all black cherry, plum, forest floor, and a punchy core of stony minerality.
For the lowest price in the whole country, this IS the Burgundy to load up on – don't hesitate!
