Records place the Armenier family in Châteauneuf-du-Pape for roughly 700 years, with five branches of the family already recorded by 1344. In 1995, at a time when it wasn't easy for women to run a winery, sisters Sophie and Catherine Armenier took over Domaine de Marcoux, with Catherine managing the vines and Sophie leading the winemaking. Under their stewardship, the estate became known for old-vine Grenache grown on sandy and clay-limestone soils, farmed biodynamically since the early 1990s – one of the first in the appellation to do so.
The 2020 is the more generous, immediately charming vintage from this storied estate – a supple, engaging Châteauneuf that shows beautifully in its early years, all rounded fruit and warmth, and ready to drink now as much as it's suited to develop for many years ahead.
