From one of France’s most compelling and fast-rising wine destinations, this 2021 Chardonnay is a beautifully detailed expression of eastern France’s tiny and bucolic Jura region. It offers up rich textural character and stunning minerality for a price that feels all too approachable. The small estate of Domaine de la Touraize is located in Arbois, and they prioritize hands-on vineyard work and a restrained cellar approach to allow the region’s unique terroir to shine.

Sourced from the En Flandre vineyard, this Chardonnay is fermented with native yeasts, undergoes full malolactic fermentation, and is aged for 12 months on fine lees in neutral oak, building depth and creaminess while preserving freshness and precision. It opens gradually with aromas of baked apple, ripe pear, lemon curd, and white peach, layered with hints of struck flint, toasted almond, crushed seashell, and chalk dust. The palate is broad yet focused, with a silky, lightly creamy texture balanced by savory mineral tension. A crunchy, saline stone note carries through the long and energetic finish that leaves a mouthwatering impression. Sophisticated and balanced, this is a thrilling alternative to White Burgundy, and our price makes it all the more winning.

About The Producer

Domaine de la Touraize is one of Arbois’s rising stars, led by eighth-generation vigneron André-Jean Morin and his wife, Héléana Morin. The Morin family’s roots in Jura viticulture trace back to at least 1704, but the modern estate took shape when André-Jean joined his father Michel in 1985 and, after decades selling fruit to the local cooperative, chose in 2009 to bottle wines under the family’s own label. Based in Arbois, the historic heart of Jura, the domaine farms organically and works with all of the region’s classic varieties, including Chardonnay, Savagnin, Trousseau, Ploussard, and Pinot Noir. Today, Domaine de la Touraize is admired for precise, terroir-driven wines that combine traditional Jura character with a polished, contemporary sensibility, helping cement its reputation as one of the appellation’s preeminent small estates.
