Go big or go home, as they say! Old vines (“Vieilles Vignes”) are celebrated for low yields and concentrated fruit, and this Gevrey-Chambertin brings that depth in large format, which is particularly excellent for aging gracefully. Expect ripe black cherry, plum, warm spice, and an earthy finish. It’s a great pick for a gathering or a cellar.

About The Producer

The family tree here is worth reading closely. Yann Charlopin's father is Philippe Charlopin, one of the great names in Gevrey-Chambertin, whose own winemaking was shaped by his mentor Henri Jayer, arguably the most influential Burgundian of the postwar era. Yann grew up watching all of that unfold, studied winemaking in Beaune, broadened his perspective with harvests in Tasmania, Sancerre, and Chablis, and then returned home to work alongside his father before deciding to build something of his own. With the encouragement of Jean-Marie Fourrier, another of Burgundy's great mentors, Yann founded Domaine Charlopin Tissier in 2013 with his wife Justine, building the early range around Justine's family vines in Marsannay. In 2015, with Fourrier's support, the couple purchased Domaine David Clarke in Morey-Saint-Denis, adding critical parcels in Gevrey-Chambertin, Vosne-Romanée, and Pernand-Vergelesses and expanding the estate to just over four hectares across some of the Côte de Nuits' most compelling addresses. In the vineyard, all farming is organic and entirely by hand. In the cellar, the approach reads like a love letter to Fourrier: complete destemming, cold maceration, native yeast fermentation, minimal racking, and a long, slow élevage on fine lees that builds complexity without imposing it. The wines are already appearing on the lists of The French Laundry, Tour d'Argent, and Frenchie, a remarkable achievement for a domaine barely a decade old. Production remains tiny, and demand grows with every vintage.
