The pedigree, history, and quality poured into these 2021 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignons are worthy of far beyond $100 a pop – but today you can get them for under $60 on orders of two or more bottles! 95 points and dripping in big mountain fruit and power!
Since 1973, Conn Creek has produced exceptional wines from the heart of Rutherford, with a focus on Cabernet Sauvignon and other Bordeaux varietals from across the Napa Valley AVA. Conn Creek was considered to be one of the valley’s first sustainably focused wineries, and today’s bottle is pulled from their impressive AVA series, highlighting fruit from Howell Mountain. This exemplifies classic Howell Mountain power, with a plush, mouth-coating texture and supreme concentration softened by floral accents and velvety-fine tannins.
Conn Creek has been a leader in the Napa winemaking scene, and one of the very first estates to realize (and proudly boast) how having relationships with top growers across your region can only make your portfolio that much better. Grape contracts were originally held as a sort of dirty secret in the early days of Napa Valley – often necessary, but rarely discussed in the open. Conn Creek helped to remove that stigma, and Napa’s wine industry is certainly the better for it. Their impact cannot be understated, and their wines are consistently some of the best across the valley!
This 2021 is drinking absolutely beautifully already, with a medley of splendid aromas marked by black cherries, blackberries, myriad baking spices, cocoa powder, and a pinch of cayenne. The palate opens with summer sun-ripened blackberries, a bit of sage, olive tapenade, dark chocolate, and a hint of vanilla bean. Soft, mouth-coating tannins leave a lingering finish that concludes with an almost saline minerality that’s absolutely divine. This is classic Howell Mountain – and sure to age fantastically – with that characteristic volcanic ash and red clay minerality. Normal retail on this is $125 – which is no surprise after pouring a glass – but we got a hold of some for you for UNDER $60 when you order two or more. Shipping included! This is one you’ll be glad you took the jump on, but jump fast before they’re all gone!
PAIRING IDEAS: Go with a heaping bone-in pork loin with braised greens, crispy Japanese sweet potatoes with cilantro mint yogurt, and whole grain mustard pork jus for a meal as rich as this brilliant Napa Cab.
