When Cliff Lede founded his namesake winery in 2002, he set out to combine two of his greatest passions: fine wine and classic rock. From the start, he organized his vineyards like a greatest hits album – naming blocks after iconic songs, from My Generation to Dark Side of the Moon. In just two decades, the estate has since expanded its holdings, now comprising over 160 acres across Napa Valley, and become a fixture among Napa’s elite, crafting Cabernets that demonstrate power, precision, and a bit of rock ‘n' roll soul.
The 2022 Crossfade bottling is a showstopping composition of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Cabernet Franc, 4% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, and 1% Malbec. Grapes were sourced from top lots from the estate’s iconic Poetry Vineyard and the renowned viticulturist David Abreu’s Madrona Ranch, both farmed with meticulous attention and low yields. After a precision-driven fermentation using gravity flow and extended maceration, the wine was aged for 22 months in 71% new French oak, gaining harmony and depth before bottling.
In the glass, Crossfade radiates deep purple hues and opens with a swirl of boysenberry, black fig, and pipe tobacco, accented by hints of iron, red lunchbox pepper, and dried herbs. The palate flows with malted chocolate, hazelnut, and cassis, unfolding in smooth, satiny layers before gliding to a long, supple finish. It’s equal parts intensity and elegance, and a wine that feels both modern and timeless. Only 637 cases were made, and while it easily commands its $100 retail price, we’re offering it at just $75 each on 2+ with free shipping. A perfect red for all occasions, near and far.
