Spiced sandalwood, crushed roses, and dark chocolate on the nose — old school in the most flattering sense, with waves of Margaux finesse running through it, well balanced with subtle tannins exerting quiet pressure and holding on for a mouthwatering finish. The 2005 captures the richness of the year while remaining a classically built, mid-weight wine of remarkable freshness and tension — bright red-toned fruit, spice, rose petal, blood orange, and crushed rocks that literally soar out of the glass. Twenty years on, Rauzan-Ségla 2005 remains one of the most quietly compelling wines of a legendary Bordeaux vintage — drinking beautifully right now with decades still ahead of it, and priced well below its peers of equal quality.

About The Producer

Chateau Rauzan-Segla is ranked as a second growth in the 1855 classification and has been enjoyed by many well-known figures. The most famous is Thomas Jefferson who purchased several cases during his visit to the vineyards of Bordeaux. The current chateau was built in 1903 and was designed by the architect Louis Garros who admired the original Pyrigord style buildings. As time went by the chateau was quiet but was purchased in 1994 by Chanel which immediately started a full renovation of the estate.
