Refined and pure, the 2021 Potensac is a classic Bordeaux for an unfathomable price with lots of life yet to live! Coming from a storied family producer in northern Médoc, this double-93-point bottling is bright and lively, with so much going on for a considerably approachable price tag. Make your move with haste today, and make it a 4-pack to get free shipping!
In northern Médoc, just outside the renowned appellations of Saint-Estèphe and Pauillac, sits Château Potensac. The estate has been in the Delon family for many generations, who also own one of the top Second Growths in Saint-Julien, Château Léoville Las Cases. With modernized vineyards and winemaking practices, the family has taken steps toward a more contemporary future of wine while still preserving a traditional Médoc character.
Once considered a Cru Bourgeois, Potensac was elevated to Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in 2003 – the top tier of high-quality wines outside the 1855 classification. Known for crafting serious, classic Bordeaux wines that often outperform its northern Médoc neighbors, this estate’s every release seems to exude structure, depth, and ageability, with boundless complexity and finesse. Potensac wines appear to bridge the gap between Cru Bourgeois wines and classified growth wines, offering remarkable value, exquisite quality, and impressive balance.
With higher Cabernet Franc than past vintages, the 2021 is a blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot, giving it a lightness to the body that allows so many of the nuances to shine: blackberries and raspberries, spearmint and bay leaves, lavender and rose petal, baking spice and pipe tobacco. The layers are abounding, and for a sub-$35 Bordeaux from a pedigreed family producer, this is packing some serious punch. Fill up your cart with a 4-pack or more to score free shipping on this ageable, mega-value Bordeaux gem!
FOOD PAIRINGS: Curry is one of my favorite types of food to make, and I’m eyeing this red curry beef for something super fragrant and just spicy enough, with loads of colorful veggies and herbs to balance out the hearty chuck roast and complement this lively Bordeaux.
