The 2019 Pape Clément is another statement wine from Bernard Magrez's historic estate. Jeb Dunnuck awarded 98, James Suckling 97, Vinous 97, Decanter 96, Wine Enthusiast 95, Wine Advocate 94, Wine Spectator 94. The wine is deeply colored, with a nose of ripe plum, blackberry, mocha, iodine, and spice, the palate full-bodied and saturated with a saline, graphite-infused mid-palate and great depth through a long, tender finish. Magrez has successfully moved Pape Clément toward a more classical style in recent years, and the 2019 shows that beautifully: all the concentration the estate is known for, reined in with precision and elegance. The price is incredible. Don't miss it.

About The Producer

Château Pape Clément's history dates all the way back to the 13th century. It is one of the oldest estates in Bordeaux and is now surrounded by urban developments. The estate takes its name from the Archbishop of Bordeaux, Bertrand de Got, who became Pope Clemet V in 1305. In the 20th century, Paul Montagne bought the property and gradually built it back up to its prestige. The vineyard returned to its former rank and has stood the test of time. His descendants Leo Montagne and Bernard Magrez continue the tradition so that Château Pape Clément can continue to excite wine lovers today and tomorrow.
