Founded in 1725 by the Abbé Joseph Gruaud and passed to his nephew the Chevalier de Larose, Château Gruaud Larose has been one of Saint-Julien's most storied Second Growths for three centuries. The Merlaut family has owned it since 1997, and under their stewardship, with winemaker Virginie Sallette now at the helm, quality has climbed steadily. The 82-hectare vineyard is one of the largest single-block estates in the entire Médoc, planted primarily to Cabernet Sauvignon and farmed with organic methods certified in 2022. The 2015 was a landmark vintage on the Left Bank, and critics responded accordingly: James Suckling and Wine Enthusiast both awarded 95, Decanter 94, Wine Advocate 93+, Wine Spectator 92, and Vinous 92. A wine of remarkable concentration and harmony, with the structure to age for decades, at a price that makes this an easy call. Take advantage of it.
