One of the best wines ever produced at this address, the 2022 Grand Village reveals a dense, bright and complex bouquet of cassis, mulberries, flowers and sweet berries, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and round palate with a seamless texture framed by velvety tannins, concluding with a penetrating, ethereal finish. This blend of blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc benefits from the sort of careful winemaking usually reserved for cru classé wines.

Sporting a deep purple/plum hue, the 2022 Grand Village (Lafleur) offers up a rocking bouquet of ripe black cherries and blackberry-like fruits as well as some truffly earth, licorice, and chalky minerality. It's a powerful, concentrated, medium to full-bodied, broad, and layered Grand Village that offers pleasure today yet is going to benefit from at least 4-6 years of bottle age and have 20+ years of overall longevity. The tannins are particularly velvety, and it has a Saint-Emilion-like sense of limestone minerality.

Liquorice and salty cola on the nose, with cool blue fruits and a mineral edge. Ripe and intense with a shot of acidity that keeps the powerful fruit in check. Laser-sharp tannins provide structure without heaviness, keeping the texture streamlined and sleek. A cool blueberry and dried mint freshness lingers, while a chalky, powdery feel emerges after a few minutes. The finish is a little constricted but retains energy, salinity, and juicy appeal. Give it air, and it will soften beautifully. A lot of wine for the price.

Nutty, spicy, floral, and fruity in the nose, the wine is ripe, round, lush, rich and fragrant in the mouth. The finish is long, lifted, and spicy, with layers of dark pit fruits, cocoa and a touch of salt on the back end of the finish. This is one of the great Bordeaux value wines you can purchase by the case, if you can find it. And it is ready to be enjoyed on release! The wine blends 80% Merlot with 20% Cabernet Franc. Harvesting took place September 9 - September 23. Drink from 2025-2037.

The 2022 Grand Village Rouge is plump, juicy and quite extroverted in its first impression. But that is the first impression only. Aromatics and underlying structure emerge with a bit of air, signaling a complex, dynamic wine that punches well above its weight. The blend is 80% Merlot and 20% Bouchet (Cabernet Franc), with the Bouchet really driving the blend. Superb.

About The Producer

Château Grand Village is the ancestral home of the Guinaudeau family — the same family behind Château Lafleur, one of Pomerol's most revered estates. The estate in Mouillac, just north of Fronsac, traces its history to 1650, when a Verdery ancestor of the Guinaudeaus first cultivated the land. Jacques and Sylvie Guinaudeau returned to the property in 1980, and when they took charge of Lafleur in 1985, the two estates became deeply intertwined: Grand Village's vineyards were gradually replanted with massal selections from Lafleur's own old vines, and the winemaking approach brought into alignment with the family's exacting standards in Pomerol. Today Baptiste and Julie Guinaudeau are deeply involved in both properties. Red and white wines are produced across 17 hectares of clay, limestone, and gravel, and the wines deliver the Guinaudeau family's characteristic precision and freshness at a fraction of the Lafleur price — arguably the most compelling insider's value in the Bordeaux region.
