This is really luxurious, showing blackcurrants and orange peel with cedar and dried-mushroom aromas following through to a medium to full body that grows on the palate. This has crunchy and lightly chewy tannins that are slightly austere but in an elegant, classical Bordeaux way. Chewy at the end. So much energy and vibe. So complex. Probably the greatest wine ever from here. A blend of 65% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 2% cabernet franc, 2% malbec and 1% petit verdot. Best after 2028 but already a joy to taste.

Wonderfully intense fragrance on the nose - violets, blackcurrants and chocolate. Smooth and silky, almost creamy in texture with bite to the tangy strawberry and red cherry fruit. The grip from the tannins takes hold from the mid palate onwards, creating a funnel for the energy and power to surge through ending long and lifted. Lovely winemaking, this has thrust but is packaged really elegantly with the opulence of 2022 clearly on show - especially with a flash of heat on the finish - but balanced freshness and a light touch in the cellar. Bold but seductive nonetheless.

The deep ruby/purple-hued 2022 Château D'Issan is rock star stuff, offering a massive array of red and black fruits, spring flowers, violets, smoky tobacco, and a beautiful sense of minerality. This full-bodied, powerful, concentrated Issan has a layered, seamless mouthfeel, beautiful tannins, and a great finish. The alcohol here is 14.6% and the pH is a solid 3.6. Give bottles 4-5 years if you can, and it will evolve gracefully over the following three decades.

The 2016 D’Issan is a stunning blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot. It was aged in 50% new and 50% one-year-old French oak for 18 months prior to bottling. Once on the nose this takes on layers of baking spices, anise, creme de cassis and wet gravel accents. The palate is medium to full-bodied with gorgeous dark fruits and dark florals that meld well with sandalwood and rocky accents. This should easily go for another twenty years to come. Earthy, wet forest aromatics, truffle, dark cherries and herbs on the front end and a full-bodied, fresh, silky, sweet, polished, red pit fruit palate and finish on the backend. What more could you ask for in a terrific Margaux? This is showing just great today, and with aging, it promises to be even better. Give it 7-9 years in the bottle and enjoy it over the next 15-20 years or longer. The wine was made from blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot.

The 2016 D'Issan is blended of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot, aged in 50% new and 50% one-year-old French oak for 18 months. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it has vibrant black cherries and blackcurrants notes with chocolate mint, beef drippings, black olives and cigar box. Medium-bodied with a well-sustained, intensely flavored mid-palate, it has a rock-solid, grainy frame and long savory finish. 10,500 cases produced.

The 2016 Château d'Issan has a more lush, slightly precocious bouquet with violet-infused black plum and marine scents, classic in style, cool and collected. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very well balanced, unapologetically classic in style with just the right amount of austerity on the finish. Surely one of the best vintages from this historic estate in recent years. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting and consistent with notes at Bordeaux Index's own tasting.

James Suckling handed the 2016 d'Issan a very impressive 96, and it's hard to argue: the 2016 vintage was exceptional across Margaux and d'Issan made the most of it. This is a wine of great finesse and aromatic complexity with violet, dark cherry, forest floor, and the kind of silky tannin structure that Margaux lovers dream about. About The Producer

The wine of kings and the kings of wine — that's Château d'Issan's motto, and it's not an idle boast. The estate's legend stretches back to 1152, when its wine was reportedly served at the wedding of Eleanor of Aquitaine and King Henry II of England. The moated château itself, rebuilt in the 17th century by the d'Essenault family, is one of the most romantic buildings in all of Bordeaux. The Cruse family, long established in the Médoc négociant trade, purchased the estate in 1945 and slowly restored it to form; Emmanuel Cruse has led its revival since 1998, bringing in new sorting technology, improving selection, and steadily raising the quality of this Third Growth Margaux. In 2013, the Lorenzetti family joined as co-owners, and the partnership has further invested in both vineyard and cellar. Today the 68-hectare estate — flanked by Château Palmer and Château Margaux — produces wines of flamboyant aromatic character and silky Margaux texture.
