The 2021 edition of this single-vineyard Cabernet from the Regusci site shows off the characteristic Stags Leap District blend of richness and minerality. It begins with a sanguine, slightly savory profile — think bay leaf, black olive, crushed stone — before yielding to floral violet notes and a deep core of dark blue and black fruits. On the palate, expect dark chocolate, incense, spice and a taut mineral backbone that gives it precision, while the acidity helps frame a finish that feels long and structured. Reviewers have called it full-bodied yet balanced, with plush tannins and a classy, slightly herbal-earthy undercurrent, suggesting this wine has the stuffing to age gracefully.

About The Producer

Caterwaul is a project between 6th generation Napa native, Matt Hardin and Top Gun winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown. Matt was a partner in Barbour Vineyard Management and now has now gone out on his own with Josh Clark. Matt is married to Jim Regusci's daughter, so when it came time to source premium grapes, they found their favorite rows of Jim's prime cut of Stag's Leap District to start their project. Thomas and Matt had worked together for many years over many different projects and a friendship was developed. Out of that friendship the idea of working together, utilizing the strengths of the other, Caterwaul was born.
