The Neri family's Tenuta Nuova project draws from the Le Cetine vineyard in the southern reaches of Montalcino, fermented in open conical stainless steel vats using no pumps to protect fruit quality and extract only the finest tannins, then aged in tonneaux for 30 months. The 2018 vintage produced a wine of remarkable freshness and brightness, with the Mediterranean character of Tenuta Nuova fully on display: light smoky earth, black cherry, licorice, and black pepper on the nose, leading to a polished, crunchy palate with notes of black raspberry, fresh soil, and graphite, with a point of sour cherry that folds beautifully into dried flowers and crushed stone. Farr Vintners awarded 98, Rupert Valentini 97, James Suckling 96, TWI 96, Wine Advocate 95, and Wine Spectator 93. The consensus describes a wine of high concentration that still carries the freshness and precision that sets the best of this vintage apart from the riper years on either side. The price here is incredibly well-positioned for Tenuta Nuova. Grab it while you can.
