Alain Girard & Fils L'Infidele Sancerre Blanc 2020

Sauvignon Blanc | Loire Valley

$34.95

750ML

Given the rates of inflation and the hot run Sancerre has been on the last 10 years, finding decent Sancerre for $30 is a massive challenge...finding REALLY GOOD, artisan Sancerre, made in tiny quantities for $30 is a freakin' miracle!

Just south of the village of Sancerre you’ll find the domaine of Alain Girard & Fils, where brothers, Anthony and Nicolas Girard, are making beautiful, fresh, flinty, and weighty sauvignon blanc from a wide range of terroir throughout the region. We LOVE the ‘20 (so will you!) at this tasty little price — it’s full of crisp and inviting white floral notes, with river rock, cool-water freshness, grapefruit, and white nectarine, with just the right touch of tropical richness and warmth to the palate. It's a perfectly balanced, texturally luxurious style that gives a nod to the small amount of neutral oak aging. We love the complexity here...just supremely rare for Sancerre at this spectacular price! If you know, you know, we guess!

2020 was a remarkable year for Sancerre (and the Loire Valley in general), producing wines that are both fully ripe, yet with the classic tension and mineral edge that is definitively Sancerre. Intense, yet generous, ageable, but approachable...you simply can’t go wrong here! We got less than last year sadly, so don’t delay in grabbing yours!

About The Producer

In 1973, the Girard family purchased and modernized the old Domaine des Brosses estate that was founded in 1875, just south of the town of Sancerre. Nicolas Girard has now taken over his father, Alain's 27 acres estate and, along with his brother Anthony, is making wines that are fresh, texturally modern, and aromatic. Both brothers have traveled extensively throughout the wine world, and have used the knowledge and experience acquired to redefine their take on Sancerre.
