Chateau La Fleur-Pétrus Pomerol 2017 - First Bottle

Reviews

96 Vinous -
The 2017 Lafleur-Petrus is elegant, polished and wonderfully refined from start to finish. Everything just falls into place effortlessly. Aromatic, sculpted fruit gives the 2017 its sense of regal beauty and total finesse. Beautifully lifted and precise, it is framed by gentle, silky tannins. Small red berries, mint, blood orange, spice and licorice develop in the glass, but it is the wine's cashmere-like softness that impresses most. In 2017 Lafleur-Petrus is a real standout.

Château La Fleur-Pétrus may be among the most well-known – and respected – vineyards in all of Pomerol. Situated exclusively atop the plateau, the landmark estate was named for its location between two revered neighbors – The First Growth of ‘Pétrus’ and the iconic ‘La Fleur’ estate. Talk about location, location, location! Jean-Pierre Moueix acquired the estate in 1950 after identifying the unmatched quality within the Pomerol appellation, famous for its gravel and clay terroirs. Soaring 33 to 38 meters above sea level, Château La Fleur-Pétrus draws its identity from both the personality within the soil and the high elevation of its parcels, lending to the craftsmanship of many great and elegant wines. The vineyard sites here grow mostly merlot, though small allotments of cabernet franc and petit verdot also thrive and add rich and spicy complexities to their renowned Bordeaux blends.

About the Producer

Château Pétrus, a legendary winery located in the prestigious Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux, stands as a symbol of excellence and rarity in the world of fine wines. Revered by connoisseurs and collectors, Château Pétrus holds a storied history that dates back to the 18th century. The estate's vineyards, covering a relatively small area, benefit from the unique clay soils that impart a distinct character to the grapes, particularly the Merlot variety. Renowned for their power, complexity, and extraordinary aging potential, the wines of Château Pétrus have become synonymous with opulence and refinement. Each vintage is meticulously crafted with meticulous attention to detail, and the vineyard's low yields contribute to the limited production and exceptional quality of their wines. A bottle of Château Pétrus represents a true oenophilic treasure, embodying the essence of the Pomerol region and capturing the artistry and expertise that has been refined over generations.
