Internet pioneer and early leader of AOL, Barry Schuler, bought the property that would become Meteor Vineyard along with his wife, Tracy, in 1998. They hired legendary viticulturist Mike Wolf to assess the potential of the land, which turned out to be a goldmine for growing Cabernet. Their parcel sits on a slope in Napa Valley’s Coombsville appellation, overtop stony, volcanic soils that are ideal for developing Cabernet Sauvignon. Since their inaugural vintage in 2005, the Schulers have partnered with winemakers Bill and Dawnine Dyer to craft elegant, balanced wines that are built to age for decades. They produce just two estate wines, both 100% Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon, to soaring applause and acclaim.

These 2016 vintage Perseid magnums are incredibly limited and are OVER $200 off suggested retail. That alone is compelling enough – but add to that a 95-point Vinous review? And a vineyard that Andy Erickson, Tony Soter, Philippe Melka, and many of Napa’s top winemakers adore? AND the superb winemaking talents of Bill and Dawnine Dyer? It’s almost too good to be true. This wine is revered for its Bordeaux-esque style, flawlessly expressed in the elegant and nearly perfect 2016 growing season. Violets and peonies, then lavender, and bay laurel, followed by this decadent mocha, with black currants, and blueberry pie, and a dusting of smoldering sage, some cigar box notes, plenty of minty freshness, and warm baking spices. Simply put, decadent, delicious, and downright unmissable! This is one of those all-time, can’t-miss, devastatingly-limited kinds of deals... grab two bottles and shipping gets chipped away too!

About The Producer

Meteor Vineyard, perched on a knoll in Napa Valley’s Coombsville AVA, intertwines architectural grandeur with viticultural excellence. In 1998, former AOL CEO Barry Schuler and his wife, Tracy, acquired a 22-acre cattle pasture once part of founder Nathan Coombs’s holdings. Recognizing the site’s volcanic soils, elevation (~500?ft), and maritime-influenced microclimate, they partnered with renowned viticulturist Mike Wolf and winemaking duo Bill & Dawnine Dyer. Planted in 1999 with Cabernet Sauvignon clones (along with a small block of Petit Verdot), the vineyard quickly attracted established Napa wineries such as Etude, Vineyard 29, Arietta, Favia, and Lail. What began as a one-off 2003 birthday Cabernet evolved into a full label release in 2005 after the 2005 vintage confirmed the site’s exceptional quality. Today, Meteor Vineyard produces two ultra-premium Cabernet Sauvignons—the flagship label and a Special Family Reserve—all estate-grown and aged long-term in French oak, earning high ratings (~97 pts) and commanding prices above $150–$325 per bottle. The 34-acre gated estate, featuring a striking rammed-earth residence designed by Cutler Anderson and completed in 2004, seamlessly integrates with its surroundings, offering world-class winemaking infrastructure and luxury living. Meanwhile, the vineyard continues to contract fruit to prestige producers while maintaining a robust direct-to-consumer business, frequently praised for its “rich texture,” “energy,” and Coombsville’s signature elegance.
