Cool new father-son duos are always fun to watch – and this one combines decades of experience both domestically and abroad with some seriously top-notch vineyards here in Napa. This gorgeous Chardonnay is the latest from the pair, and we have it for an epic price.

Daniel Baron is a long-time participant in the Bay Area wine industry – with some simply iconic stops along his decades-long career. He was part of the vineyard crew at Chateau Montelena in 1973 – the same year their legendary Chardonnay that won the Judgement of Paris was born. In 1982, he was working in the cellars of the esteemed Chateau Petrus – helping to craft one of the most collectible wines of all time. There he befriended Christian Moueix, leading to a 12-year stint at Dominus, followed by 23 years as the winemaker for Silver Oak. His son, Sam has taken a similarly circuitous route – with harvests in Napa, Burgundy, and New Zealand before returning home to California to work with such rising stars as Broc Cellars, Nickel and Nickel, Kivelstadt Cellars, and Ashes and Diamonds Winery.

Now that we’ve firmly established this winery’s pedigree - what about the juice? Simply delicious – and the perfect marriage of Burgundian style with California sunshine. Neutral barrels, whole cluster pressing, native yeast, and naturally occurring malolactic conversion combine to give this golden nectar an infusion of floral aromatics, with bright citrine flavors of lemon cream, key lime pie, and this creamy, dreamy texture. A vein of minerality provides added freshness, and the finish lingers thoughtfully. It’s an experience, and a memorable one at that!

The fruit hails from the Linda Vista Vineyard – an organic, meticulously farmed site and home estate to none other than the legendary Steve Matthiasson. He is widely recognized as one of the greatest vintners in Napa Valley (and beyond), and Chardonnay from here is some of the best you’ll find in the Napa Valley. Combine that with the absolutely pristine growing season of the 2023 harvest, and you have the opportunity for greatness. All that, for UNDER $15, is simply remarkable – but you've got to get a 6-pack to lock in that great price. Trust us, you’ll want at LEAST that much of this wine – so eminently quaffable, with a food friendliness that ideally aligns with fish, or oysters, grilled pork, quiche, or even a simple medley of grilled summer veggies. The possibilities are endless – our supply of this fantastic deal... somewhat less so.

PAIRING IDEAS: I’m making some Italian chicken cutlets (pound your chicken breasts to smithereens – or as thin as you can get ‘em – coat with a well-whisked egg, and then a mixture of breadcrumbs, Italian seasons, salt, and pepper, and fry in a thin layer of hot avocado oil until crisp, about 4-5 minutes per side). Let those rest while you whip up a simple kale Caesar salad, topped with fresh lemon juice and your sliced cutlets. With this Chardonnay on the side? Scrumptious!

About The Producer
