Château Séraphine is a small and relatively young Pomerol estate that has swiftly gained recognition and popularity from both critics and wine lovers around the world. Rigorous vineyard management and attentive vinification have catapulted this estate into icon status, and this 95-point 2019 (for OVER 55% off) cements the immense quality, artistry, and care emanating from all this estate produces.

Properties in Pomerol don’t often pop up for sale, so when two estates (Chateau Monbrun and Clos Picassou) came on the market in 2016, father and daughter duo Martin and Charlotte Krajewski knew they needed to jump on the opportunity. The purchase was made, and the following year, they merged the properties, renaming the new winery to form Château Séraphine. Although the estate is young, don’t let its novelty fool you... this is a family that knows what it's doing in the way of farming vines and making magnificent, age-worthy wine.

Martin grew up on a farm and became a well-respected businessman, working first for the City of London for 30 years, and then investing in several wineries in France, Australia, and South Africa. Charlotte worked harvests in Bordeaux and South Africa before getting her oenology degree, then gaining experience at a number of illustrious wineries in Australia, New Zealand, the U.S., and France before planting her feet back at her father’s property in 2017.

Business acumen and wine prowess aside, this is a pair who, at their core, are all about family. The winery is named after Martin’s grandmother, paying homage to his Polish farming heritage, along with Pomerol’s captivating history. The winemaking approach is simple: to gently coax the wines from field to bottle, and to intervene as little as possible. The 2019 Pomerol is 100% Merlot, crafted with an exquisite attention to detail (seriously, find the producer's website to see just how meticulous these guys are). It offers endless elegance, with deep and evocative notes of blackberries, strawberries, and black cherries, alongside truffle and plum compote accents, finishing with layers of clove, cinnamon, and crushed granite. Truly mesmerizing stuff at a mind-melting price. Just make sure you get at least 2 bottles to get shipping on the house!

PAIRING IDEAS: These braised chicken legs feel like a warm hug with this rich and sultry Pomerol, and there’s nothing more satisfying on a crisp fall evening.
