Cayuse Vineyards Syrah En Chamberlin Vineyard Walla Walla Valley 2004
Cayuse Vineyards Syrah En Chamberlin Vineyard Walla Walla Valley 2004

If that is not enough\, I tasted a barrel sample of a 2005 Grenache which rivals the best grown in the USA. Could it be that before long Manfred Krankl of SQN will be known as the Christophe Baron of the Central Coast? The salty\, saline quality of Spanish wines is here married to New World fruit. There is amazing density\, concentration and sweetness to the fruit. Layers of chocolate\, prune\, fig\, herb\, cola\, butterscotch\, balsamic all commingle. This is incredibly complex\, yet almost impossible to pin down. -

From En Chamberlin, the 2004 Syrah shows Cayuse’s signature savory style, with smoked meat, olive tapenade, and earthy minerality. The palate is powerful yet elegant. Fully developed, it’s a superb expression of this site.

About The Producer

Cayuse Vineyards was founded in 1997 by French vigneron Christophe Baron, who recognized the untapped potential of the rocky, cobblestone soils in Walla Walla’s “Stone Cairn” region of Oregon and Washington. Planting vines where few thought they could thrive, Baron pioneered a distinctive style of biodynamically farmed, Rhône-inspired wines that are now among the most coveted in the U.S. The estate is renowned for its limited-production Syrah, Grenache, and Cabernet Sauvignon, each marked by a unique sense of place and the signature “minerality” of Cayuse’s stony terroir. Today, Cayuse stands as one of the Pacific Northwest’s most iconic and collectible producers.
