This style is incredibly high-quality, made from the Grasparossa di Castelvetro grape in the northern Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, from the fairytale-esque estate of Tenuta Pederzana. The property spans 14 hectares of vineyards, woodlands, and a natural lake that is as pretty as a painting. Clay soils, cool nights, and southeast and east-facing vineyards allow the vines to flourish, producing some of the highest quality Grasparossa grapes you’ll find anywhere.
This is immensely aromatic, fruity, and tannic – and brilliant next to an assortment of foods (particularly holiday and winter meals) – bringing notes of brambly blackberries, dried cherry, tarragon, sage, and chalk dust. It’s fresh and vivacious with dusty tannins, a full body, and loads of character – especially given the price.
