La Rosine is the name of the previous owner of this six-hectare vineyard that sits just above the southern edge of the Côte-Rôtie boundary in the commune of Tupin et Semons, planted at 10,000 vines per hectare on granite soils. Because it falls outside the official Côte-Rôtie appellation boundary, it carries the IGP Collines Rhodaniennes designation, which is exactly why it represents one of the finest value propositions in the Northern Rhône: same producer, same granite, same obsessive winemaking, different label. Jeb Dunnuck called the 2022 rocking stuff, with ripe red and black fruits, asphalt, roasted herbs, and leather, medium to full-bodied with good ripeness and roundness, and meaty, savory character balanced by sweetness of fruit. Wine Advocate awarded 91 and James Lawther 90, with multiple other tasters praising the classic Northern Rhône black raspberry fruit, chalky minerality, and spice. Aged in 10% new French oak for 14 months, it is bright, vibrant, and joyful, and arguably the smartest everyday Syrah buy from one of the appellation’s most admired families. The price here is exceptional. Grab a few.
