E. Guigal Ex-Voto Hermitage 2017

Ex-Voto is the fulfillment of a longtime dream of Marcel Guigal’s: to own vineyard land on the Hermitage hill. Through the purchase of the Domaines de Vallouit and Grippat in 2000, the family acquired four exceptional parcels on this legendary granite and schist slope, primarily in the Greffieux and Les Murets lieux-dits. Because Marcel insisted that the wine only be released in vintages it was truly exceptional, it appears irregularly, and each release draws immediate attention from collectors. The 2017 was aged 48 months in barrel and draws 93% Syrah from the estate’s Hermitage holdings. Jeb Dunnuck awarded 98+, describing a killer nose of blackcurrants, black raspberries, smoked meats, spice box, vanillin, and espresso, full-bodied and massively endowed, requiring a solid decade of bottle age and predicting it will merit a triple-digit rating with time. Wine Spectator awarded 97, Vinous 97, and Wine Advocate 95, with WA describing singed leather, exotic spice, roasted meat, cedar, mocha, cherry, and cassis with a whirl of complexity and a lingering finish. Jeb Dunnuck confirmed the 2017 “will most likely merit a triple-digit rating in 4-5 years.” That window is now. The price here is extraordinary for an Ex-Voto of this caliber. Very limited. Act on it.
