They say blondes have more fun, but how about Two Blondes? Sounds like double the awesomeness, if you ask me! The blondes in question here are Annie Camarda and Melody Fleckenstein, the wives and business partners of Chris Camarda and Bill Fleckenstein, co-owners of the vineyard. The roughly 30-acre site was planted in 2000 in the Rattlesnake Hills AVA of the Yakima Valley in Washington State. It’s one of the coolest sites in the area, developing elegant and age-worthy wines, and rumor is that it was supposed to be named something French, like their Ciel du Cheval vineyard, but they were denied the name “Cheval Blondes” and chose “Two Blondes” instead.
Chris Camarda has been the vintner and winemaker behind the illustrious Andrew Will brand for decades now, crafting wines that have strengthened and tempered the reputation of Washington state. Nearly everyone knows Quilceda Creek, and yet few know of Andrew Will – but we’re happy to do our part to change that. This is a producer who has often drawn comparisons from top critics to the iconic Chateau Cheval Blanc, and rightfully so! This incredible red blend mimics Right Bank Bordeaux with 58% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 4% Malbec, all from the well-respected Two Blondes Vineyard.
Offering up a luscious bouquet of dusty blueberries, lilacs, and rose petals with an almost baby powder-like freshness, the palate opens with a dark and robust profile of black cherries, mocha, raspberry liqueur, and pomegranate molasses. A minty spice and roasted herb note envelops the mouth next, with a never-ending, cashmere-smooth finish. Make no mistake, this is one of Washington State’s greatest producers, and this blend is one of our all-time favorites at First Bottle HQ. Not to mention... 95 points and under $50 for orders of 3 or more bottles?! Proceed with speed; we have a feeling these will move quickly!
PAIRING IDEAS: If you’re feeling fancy, go for steak tartare topped with a large egg yolk. If you’re not, your best juicy cheeseburger on a fresh brioche bun will do just fine!
